When things are given for free, it can inspire people to be creative and come up with new ideas. This is because they don't have to worry about money and can focus on exploring their thoughts, without the pressure of failing.
And innovation inspires volunteers.
Android was inspired from Linux, a free software.
The internet was inspired when the National Science Foundation expanded ARPANET for CSNET, a wealth of knowledge that's mostly free, to this day.
Dig online and you'll find a ton of stuff like this: innovations that were free, that inspired more voluntary improvements.
And volunteers inspire humanity.
Humans can do great things. When we are inspired, it makes it possible for us to create new things - or at least make the world better in small, meaningful ways.
Only humans understand this meaning. That's why we believe in volunteer work. It gives us hope that people will be nicer to each other.
